A YEAR WITHOUT LOVE
A Film by Anahi Berneri
Pablo is a young HIV+ poet who decides to write a diary documenting his search to cure both his failing love life and health. Pablo unsuccessfully looks for love in bars and personal ads, before settling for anonymous sex in adult cinemas. With the embarrassment of relying on his father's aid to make ends meet, a low-paying job as a French teacher and with an apartment he must share with his bickering aunt, Pablo finds it difficult to break out of the drudgery of daily routine.
However, when Pablo joins a secret group of leather fetishists, he begins to fully explore his fascination with S&M practices, the excitement of which adds a much needed injection of spice, danger and thrill into his life, lending it a new-found meaning. By year's end, Pablo has pages and pages of well-documented sexual adventures.
Winner of the Berlinale Teddy Award, first time feature film-maker Anahi Berneri takes us into the grubby backstreets of Buenos Aires to tell an engaging and provocative story about the need for human connection, in the most unexpected of places.
