In the glorious summer of 1960, six pals from Willim Howitt Secondary Modern School in the mining town of Heanor, cycle up to the Derbyshire hills. Cycling out of the village of Litton, along a narrow country lane they speedily descend the 550ft drop into a deep wooded ravine called Water-cum-Jolly-Dale. Six boys were happily racing down that hill... but only five reached the bottom.
In the following hours, the boys made a desperate search for their friend, eventually calling the police. But he was not found.
43 years pass, one of the boys returns to England, having spent much of his life in the US, decides to re-open the search, his investigation rekindles friendships, turns lives upside down, ventures into a sleazy underworld, and leads to a dramatic and stunning conclusion.
